El Corregidor y la Molinera is a pantomime‑ballet in two tableaux composed by Manuel de Falla between 1916 and 1917 to a scenario by Gregorio Martínez Sierra after Pedro Antonio de Alarcón’s novella. The work combines spoken mime, dance interludes, and two sung numbers for mezzo‑soprano, depicting the magistrate’s unwitting seduction by the miller’s wife and her final vindication.

Structurally, the piece unfolds over two continuous scenes: the first introduces the miller’s domestic life and the corregidor’s arrival, culminating in the dance of the miller’s wife and a vineyard celebration; the second depicts the corregidor’s clumsy flirtations, the miller’s jealous revenge, and a raucous finale. Dance rhythms (fandango, seguidilla) and folkloric melodies recur throughout, unifying the dramatic action with Andalusian character. A typical performance lasts about 43 minutes, during which Falla’s modal harmonies, rhythmic vitality, and transparent textures evoke both the rustic setting and the subtle interplay of comedy and drama.
