Hammersmith: Prelude and Scherzo, Op. 52, was written by Gustav Holst in 1930 as a substantial two-part work for military/wind band (Prelude and Scherzo).

The wind-band premiere took place at the American Bandmasters Association convention in Washington, D.C., on 17 April 1932, performed by the United States Marine Band under Taylor Branson (Holst had been due to conduct but was ill). After Holst’s death the band parts were lost and the work was reconstructed in the 1950s (Robert Cantrick working with Imogen Holst) before the band version entered standard repertoire.
