Sibelius’s Suite for Violin and String Orchestra, JS 185, is a three-movement work composed in 1929 and often published as Op. 117. Its movements are Country Scenery (Allegretto), Serenade: Evening in Spring (Andantino), and In the Summer (Vivace).

The suite is a concise, lyrical work that continues Sibelius’s long engagement with the violin, following earlier pieces such as the Serenades and Humoresques. It's the culmination of that line of writing, and the score shows Sibelius’s characteristic ability to combine clear formal control with an idiomatic understanding of the instrument. Its three movements move from a pastoral opening through a more intimate central serenade to a brisk, lighter finale.
