Leroy Anderson’s A Christmas Festival for Wind Band is the composer’s own concert band version of his popular Christmas overture, originally written for the Boston Pops Orchestra at the request of Arthur Fiedler in 1950. Anderson later prepared the work for concert band, alongside a number of his orchestral compositions, preserving the structure and character of the original.

Rather than presenting a straightforward medley, Anderson described the work as “a concert overture” built from well-known Christmas melodies. The score weaves together Joy to the World, Deck the Halls, God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, Good King Wenceslas, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, Jingle Bells, and O Come, All Ye Faithful into a continuous musical design.
